Dr. Laura L. Kunard is a criminologist and policing subject matter expert with over 25 years of research experience. She has worked on numerous DOJ initiatives focused on law enforcement research, training and technical assistance including the national Crisis Intervention Team training curriculum project, BJA SPI, the Advancing 21st Century Policing Initiative, and the Collaborative Reform Initiative for COPS. She currently serves as associate monitor for crisis intervention on the independent monitoring team overseeing the Albuquerque Police Department’s court-approved settlement agreement and as project director on the independent monitoring team overseeing the Chicago Police Department’s consent decree. She also has expertise in police training and education in topics such as community policing, procedural justice, impartial policing, de-escalation, and crisis intervention teams.
