Meet Curt Steel, a dedicated law enforcement professional whose career is deeply rooted in service. His career at the Riley County Police Department in Manhattan, KS, began in 2006. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant, having served as the Training Coordinator in the Administration Division. Curt’s journey within the Department has been diverse, including roles as a K-9 Handler, Police Training Officer, Special Investigations Unit, Patrol Lieutenant and Crisis Hostage Negotiator Assistant Team Leader.

Education plays a significant role in Curt’s life. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Central Christian College of Kansas. Curt later pursued a Master’s in Public Leadership and Administration from Arizona State University. With a commitment to both educating the next generation of criminal justice professionals and enhancing training methodologies on a national scale, Curt’s influence extends beyond the precinct into the realm of academic and professional development. Curt serves as a part-time adjunct instructor for Central Christian College of Kansas and is a senior instructor at the National De-Escalation Training Center.

Married to his wife, Jessica, Curt is blessed with two children, son Carson and daughter Jaylynn. Their family thrives on outdoor activities, whether it’s playing sports, enjoying the lake, or fishing together. Jessica contributes to the local school district, engaging with kids on a daily basis.
