Chief Nordenson has over 28-years in law enforcement, beginning his career in 1996 with the Barre City Police Department as a reserve officer. In 1997 he joined the City of Montpelier as a fulltime patrol officer, and throughout his time served as a field training officer before advancing through the ranks of corporal, sergeant, and deputy chief. In December of 2022, Eric was appointed Montpelier’s 16th Chief of Police.
Eric has been a strong advocate for community wide peer support, expanding the co-response model to those experiencing mental health crisis and substance misuse, officer wellness and working with community stakeholders to create the Washington County Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) program. Eric graduated from Castleton State College with a BA in criminal Justice and enjoys camping (in an air-conditioned RV) and BBQ. He also serves as an assistant coach with the Tuft’s men’s soccer team.
